Air: Movement (Vata)

The air element is wind moving into the void of space, it is represented by vata dosha and the main focus is movement. Wind brings change or transition, but not yet the transformation of fire element. It is like setting an intention, we still have to follow through but we have some kind of direction!

Once we start to talk about the Doshas we start to really think about balance. Vata is a very light, mobile, spacy, dry dosha. It is also creativity and movement, we need some but not too much. In the body this is any movement. That of the breath, of oxygen transfer, blood, nutrients, mucous, gas, feces, urine, neurological impulses. If it is slow or blocked that causes issues and if it is over active that does as well.

Balance to the wind and Vata is to stay on the ground. It is to take the dreams that we held space for in Ether element and align our actions without getting overwhelmed by making too long of a to-do list. To have a vision and do one thing at a time. To limit stimulation when we feel crazy. Maybe even to sit or lay on the ground and be able to receive the support of the earth, the love of those around us, and the care we have for ourselves.

We can think of the way autumn feels, things are dying and they are beautiful, there is more darkness and time for rest than there once was, we bring in the root vegetables from the garden to eat all winter. Fall represents some of the most challenging times I have had in my personal life and I have been perplexed by how much beauty there is in the time of death and transition, now natural it feels to slow down and regroup, to reflect on the busy summer and start to plan for the winter.

When you take your dream that you are holding space for from Ether, what intention to you need to set? What is the direction you feel pulled toward and what actions will need to be aligned for this dreamy space dream to be brought down to earth and given movement?
